McCain v2004 VS McCain v2008 on if we should leave Iraq if asked by the Iraqi government

Senator John Magoo - Senator Magoo 2008

Am I wrong here or could Mr. Magoo even see that John McCain is full of crap and quite possibly the King of All Flip Floppers, how could he keep accussing Obama of flipping when he is flopping on such a grand scale?  It appears that the Straight Talk Express was not yet lost in the wilderness when McCain Version 2004.07.31 answered a question on what would we do if the Iraqis asked us to leave.  John McCain version 2008.07.07 thinks we should stay.  Seriously, I think I may need to start keeping up with McCain’s extensive flip-flop record on a spreadsheet or flowchart.

Question: “What would or should we do if, in the post-June 30th period, a so-called sovereign Iraqi government asks us to leave, even if we are unhappy about the security situation there?”

McCain v2004.07.31’s Answer: “Well, if that scenario evolves than I think it’s obvious that we would have to leave because — if it was an elected government of Iraq, and we’ve been asked to leave other places in the world. If it were an extremist government then I think we would have other challenges, but I don’t see how we could stay when our whole emphasis and policy has been based on turning the Iraqi government over to the Iraqi people.”

How could we have any shred of credibility left if we stay in Iraq even when asked to leave by the government elected by the Iraqi people?   The Senator must have forgotten the ink stained thumbs that so moved him a few years ago.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki has inserted himself into this election in a big way.  The heart of this issue is whether we, the United Frickin’ States, should continue to occupy a country who’s people and the government that we helped install WANTS US TO LEAVE!  This week, PM Maliki stated publicly that it was time for U.S. troops to leave his country.

Nouri al Maliki : “The current trend is to reach an agreement on a memorandum of understanding either for the departure of the forces or to put a timetable on their withdrawal.”

McCain is still trying to put up the straw man argument that leaving Iraq is “waving the white flag of surrender”.   The elected government of Iraq has now stated that they are afraid that our staying would “undermine Iraq’s sovereignty”.  Well, yea. Duh.  John McCain Version 2004.07.31 saw that leaving when asked was “obvious”.  How would we feel if we were occupied against our will?  Hmmm, isn’t this what we fought for in the American Revolution? If I were an Iraqi and the United States refused to leave, this might be my new motto.

“Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.”  Thomas Jefferson

The white flag crap is not going to fly for anyone using their brain and not in denial about how patheticly low the Republican party has sunk in nominating McCain.  Everyday I am left to wonder what happened to the John McCain of 2000, also known as John McCain Version 2000 BETA.

Real conservatives should be nauseated by John McCain.  What do you think will happen if we stay no matter the will of the Iraqi people?

“The defense policy of the United States is based on a simple premise: the United States does not start fights. We will never be an aggressor.” - Ronald Reagan

“Going over the cliff, flags flying, is still going over the cliff.”  - Ronald Reagan

“Why forego the advantages of so peculiar a situation? Why quit our own to stand upon foreign ground? Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European Ambition, Rivalship, Interest, Humour or Caprice? ‘Tis our true policy to steer clear of permanent Alliances, with any portion of the foreign World … I repeat it therefore, Let those engagements. be observed in their genuine sense. But in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them.” - George Washington on avoiding foreign entanglements

We may as well take a dump on the Constitution if we can’t see that never-ending unauthorized conflicts are totally against everything we are supposed to stand for in America.  Even if we can’t wake up enough to see that, surely we can see that our foreign policy of borrowing  and printing money from thin air to pay for these conflicts (often both sides) will bankrupt us.  Who will have won the”War on Terror” if we let that happen?
